With growing importance for quality legal education, various national law schools acquired lot of importance. To meet the requirements of students of this State, the Government of Andhra Pradesh decided to establish a new Law University and as per the decision of the Council of Ministers meeting held on 30-06-2008 the Governor of Andhra Pradesh promulgated the Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam Ordinance, 2008 on 8th July 2008. Subsequently the cabinet on 04-08-2008 approved Andhra Pradesh University of Law Bill, 2008, replacing the Ordinance and this Bill was passed by the State Legislature on 28th August 2008 and became an Act after the same was assented to by the Governor on 23rd September 2008.
Thus Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam came into existence with Visakhapatnam as Main Campus and two branches at Kadapa and Nizamabad. Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam is situated at Palace Layout, Pedawaltair, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.College offers Integrated BA-LLB, PhD, Post Doctoral Programme. As on today, Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam is run in a spacious, air conditioned building in the heart of the city of Visakhapatnam. Government has allotted about 50 acres of land abutting sea shore close to Vizag City. Shortly construction of Campus will be taken up at this serene, panoramic landscape. The University office is situated in the heart of Visakhapatnam in a heritage building, namely, ‘Gnanananda Guest House’ of Andhra University.
Now the Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam is run in fully air-conditioned class rooms and library. World class library is the sine qua non for modern legal education of global standards and for research. These are the days where lot of information and case law is available through soft copies of DVD/CD and net. Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam has started building up the library in a big way by subscribing to online journals like SCC, Manupatra and already procured hard copies of All India Reporter back volumes from 1950, apart from other journals. National and International law journals provide insights into the latest developments of law. In a short time, reasonable number of computers have been set up in the lab with net facilities for the benefit of students.
National Seminar on "Law and Management: Policy Perspectives" was conducted by Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam in association with GITAM University and Chanakya National Law School. Hon'ble Justice Sirpurkar, Judge, Supreme Court of India inagurated the Seminar, while Hon'ble Justice, Arjit Prasayat, Chairman, Competition Appellate Tribunal delivered Key Note Address. National Festivals viz. Republic Day, Independence Day and other observations days are being celebrated.
Ever since the commencement of the course academic activities are going on in full swing. Guest lectures were delivered by eminent personalities. At Andhra Pradesh University of Law - Visakhapatnam students are encouraged regularly to present projects, seminars, elocution and debates. Regular Moot Court training will be taken up from the Third Semester on wards.
