Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur, established in 1971 is a reputed affiliated college of the Guru Ghashidas University, Bilaspur. The college is located on a campus of 16 acres of land. The buildings include the Main Block, Administrative Block, Library and Hostel. The college offers graduate degree courses leading to B.A., B.Sc. (Home Science), B.Sc., B.Com. and post graduate degree courses leading to M.A. in Hindi, English, Economics and Psychology and M.Sc. in Microbiology. The college has 1460 girl students, 45 teachers and 37 non-teaching staff. The
Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur was recognized by the UGC under section 2f in January 1978. The college was one of the first few institutions to be accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with A***** rating in the year 1999.
On completion of the period of five years after the first accreditation by NAAC in the year 1999, the Holy Cross College, volunteered to be reassessed by NAAC and submitted the Re-accreditation Report in the year 2004. The Peer Team constituted by NAAC to visit the Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur and validate the Re-accreditation Report, consisted of Prof. Ashok Pradhan (Chairman), Former Vice-Chancellor, YCMO University, Nasik, Dr. Mamata Satapathy (Member) Emeritus Professor, Department of Physics, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Prof. A.K. Saxena (Member), Former Principal, Vijaya Raje Govt. Girls P.G. College, Gwalior and Dr. Latha Pillai, Advisor, NAAC as Coordinator. The team visited the college for three days from 7th March to 9th March 2005.
The Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur has adequate physical facilities to run the educational programmes efficiently and the growth of the infrastructure is keeping pace with its academic growth. The College has a campus area of 16 acres. The college has adequate infrastructure to meet the curricular and co-curricular needs of its students. In addition, facilities such guest house, canteen and common room are also available. There is adequate provision of drinking water and power supply (with back-up). Class rooms and laboratories are adequately furnished. During 1999-2003 the Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur has augmented the infrastructure by constructing 2 Computer labs, 5 PG Class Rooms and Class rooms for Commerce section, Vocational courses and FAEA, 2 staff rooms, and 01 internet room with 5 computers. 22 new Computers have been installed in the Computer laboratory and in the college office. All the infrastructure and physical facilities are well maintained. The campus is beautifully maintained and is eco-friendly.
The Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur has a library with about 24,000 books and a few national journals. There is Book Bank facility for SC/ST students. The computerization of the library services has yet to begin. Internet and photocopying facilities are there. The library hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Computer lab has 33 Computers Internet facility is there which can be used by the staff and students on payment basis. The College has arranged for six-month Certificate course which is conducted by NICETEC Computer Centre of Ambikapur. Computer learning is compulsory for Science, Home Science and Commerce students and optional for Arts students. Internet Centre located in Commerce Department has three computers.
The Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur has some support services on the campus. As for the Health services, the College provides only first-aid facility. The College provides facilities for Basket ball, Throw ball, Table Tennis, Kho-Kho, Kabbaddi, Hockey, Cricket and Athletics. Some students participate in Inter-University and Inter-State tournaments for Volley ball, Basket ball, Kabbaddi, Hockey, and Kho - Kho. The Sports Officer is helped by two Staff members. For the special games, coaches are called from outside to coach the players. In 2004-05 session 06 students of the Holy Cross Womens College – Ambikapur are selected in inter- university competitions of Kho-Kho, Basket ball and Volley ball. The college has a big and well maintained 100 roomed hostel having a capacity for accommodating 480 students and staff. The Mess has two big dining halls with well equipped kitchens. The College has a Students' Counselling Centre and Grievance Redressal Cell, SC/ST welfare cell. The College also has a Parents Teachers Association, Extension Centres, NSS, Red Cross Cell, Dharam Bharti, ECO Friends and seven other Associations. College offers Master of Arts course with various specializations.
