J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna was established in the year 1982 with the aim to rehabilitate persons with developmental disorders and to mainstream them into the society with the motto of, "disabled are able being". J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna excelled in providing comprehensive services to multi-category disability viz; diagnostic, rehabilitative, therapeutic etc. J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna has achieved distinction, recognition and reputation of national level in imparting high quality training programmes in disability management and rehabilitation under recognition from RCI, statutory body of ministry of Social justice & Empowerment, Government of india and other universities in the country. Human resource development programme was started in the year 1995 in the area of the special education. Hundred of our alumni are serving in all parts of the country and abroad. J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna is starting the degree level courses in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy from the academic session 2006. There was a great demand from our alumni, parents and the organizations engaged in disability management and rehabilitation to start these courses. J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna has started all these courses under " College of Rehabilitation Sciences" with it's total administrative control. The Institute is aquiring 25 acres of land on Patna- Muzaffarpur highway to house this college in an ideal academic environment.

Audiology is the branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and their disorders. Its practitioners, who study hearing and treat those with hearing losses, are audiologists. Employing various testing strategies ( e.g. heating tests, otoacoustic emission measurement, videonystagmography, and electro physiologic tests), audio logy aims to determine whether someone can hear within the normal range, and if not, which portions of hearing (high, middle, or low frequencies ) are affected and to what degree. If an audiologist diagnoses a hearing loss or vestibule abnormality he or she will provide recommendations to a patient as to what options (e.g. hearing aids, cochlear implants, surgery, appropriate medical referrals) may be of assistance.
J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna provides comprehensive services for the persons with Speech & Hearing Impairment, Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autim and Multiple Disabilities through its various programme such as Prevention from disabilities, Early Identification, Early Intervention, Community Based Rehabilitation, Home Based Training Programme etc. Various Specialists are engaged in this process at the Institute. Apart from this, J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna is also involved in various programmes related to Human resource Development in the field of Disability management and rehabilitation.
J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna is providing clinical services in the area of rehabilitation. The clinic has almost all departments required for the management & rehabilitation of disability. There are departments of Speech & Language Pathology, Audiology, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Special Education. Highly qualified & skilled professionals render their services as team under one roof.
The department of vocational training of this J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna provides training in various trades to the disabled. The experts are engaged in Bamboo Craft, Docra Art, Papier Mache, Basic Computer Education, Training in Prosthetic & Orthotic Appliances, Cutting, Tailoring, Stitching, Embroidery & Beauty Culture.
Reach and Relife Center for the persons with autism, Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy & Multiple Disabilities: National Trust, Govt. of India funded this center in 2002. This is an excellent center catering the needs of it’s categories of disabled population. J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna has the residential as well as day care facilities. Presently government support is not available for this programme. This is being carried out by institute’s own resources.
Human Resource Development Professional Courses J M Institute of Speech and Hearing-Patna is permanently recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India as well as is the study center of various Universities offering programmes in disability management and rehabilitation.
