In the year 1967, S S Margol College of Arts, Science and Commerce – Gulbarga was inaugurated under the banner of H.K.E. Society Gulbarga by Sri. M. S. Gurupadaswami, Hon'ble minister for Food, Agriculture and Co-operative, Govt. of India on 14th September 1967. In the beginning it was started in a rented building with few students. Later on it grew with full strength and equally with intellectual faculty. Within four decades of proven existence, enjoyed good reputation for imparting education in Arts, Science and Commerce. It has well built infrastructure facility with a central library having about 27 thousand volumes of various subjects. The Laboratories are well equipped with latest instruments.

The Mission of S S Margol College of Arts, Science and Commerce – Gulbarga is to facilitate and spread higher education and create interest in literature, and culture through class room lectures, debates, seminars, special lectures, cultural and sports festivals etc., including encouragements for research activities by the teaching faculty.
S S Margol College of Arts, Science and Commerce – Gulbarga in the year 2004-05 has been accredited by NAAC B+. The institution has MoU with ALSTOM POWER PROJECT LTD, SHAHABAD, a multinational company to undertake Research & Consultancy. The Degree Students are deputed in batch-wise to ALSTOM POWER PROJECT for on-the-job training for a couple of weeks. The science students will be trained in analytical skill and commerce students will be given the knowledge of accounting and balance sheet and use of Tally software.
The Alumni of S S Margol College of Arts, Science and Commerce – Gulbarga are working in different areas in different parts of the country and some are providing services to local society and have installed cash prizes for the highest scorers in different subjects. The students of S S Margol College of Arts, Science and Commerce – Gulbarga have participated in various cultural activities like youth festivals every year and bagged excellence awards. Some of them participated in different competitions organized by the reputed organizations and also got awards.
In sports, students were selected as university blues in volleyball and brought zonal award for successive three years. (2004-05, 2005-06 & 2006-07). The NSS units are working-one for PU and another for U.G. Students. Regular social work and special camps are conducted every year as per the norms.
