Sri Guru Gobind Singh College - SGGS College is the first co-educational institute of higher education in Chandigarh. The college was established by the Sikh Educational Society in 1966. It is today one of the leading educational institutions of the northern India. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College - SGGS College building consists of two modern four-storied blocks namely: Arts Block and Science Block. It has a compact academic campus with clearly demarcated areas for different departments. The existing college infrastructure is further being increased with a post-graduate block. When this block gets complete, it will comprise of 12 Lecture Theatres, Faculty Rooms, Class Rooms, a Cyber Cafe, a Placement Cell and Office of the Alumni Association.
The computer science department of the college has well furnished air-conditioned labs with the most advanced computer systems comprising of Pentium IV processors. The Computer Centre has been extraordinary in providing application-based training to students. The well-resourced centre provides access to special software for programming, database, system analysis, etc.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College - SGGS College offers various courses like B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.C.A, B.C.A (Hons), M.Sc (Information Technology) and M.A Punjabi. Hons in some courses like Arts (History, Economics, Sociology, and English), Science (Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry) and Commerce are also offered.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College - SGGS College has been granted extension of Affiliation in the courses like: - M.Com (Semester System), M.A (English), P.G.D.C.A, B.Sc - I & II (Electronics). SGGS College is the first college in Chandigarh which has the distinction of introducing Computer Science and Electronics as elective subjects in B.Sc. (Non-Medical).
The Career Oriented Add-on programmes for B.Com have been sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are: Banking Management, Insurance Business, and Entrepreneurship in Small Business.
