A Shama Rao Foundation which runs a chain of institutions of higher education was established in 1988 to realize the dream of Mr. Adka Shama Rao, S/o Late Adka Ramachandrayya, an idealist and dreamer. Having spent most of his time in the field of education, his dream was to build up such educational institutions which mold the character of students and make them responsible citizens of our country.
A Shama Rao born in 1909 in a village in Udupi Taluk. After his BA & LT degrees from Madras University, he began his teaching career in Mangalore, in 1939. He was the founder Headmaster of the well-known SVH higher secondary residential school, Mangalore from 1943 – 1956. After his retirement also he continued to be active in the field of education and social service. Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre – Mangalore was established to realize his dream, of empowering the youth so as to build a just and equitable society. The Trust has established several educational institutions called Srinivas Group of Colleges in the field of professional studies. Mr. A Raghavendra Rao, a senior chartered Account and an advisor of Hotel Srinivas now guides and leads the trust, as its president.

The mission of the Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre – Mangalore is to create and sustain a community of learning in which students acquire knowledge and learn to apply it professionally with due consideration for ethical, ecological, and economic issues and to pursue research and disseminate research findings, to provide knowledge-based technological services to satisfy the needs of society and the industry, and to help in building national capabilities in science, technology, humanities, management, education and research.
