Stephen Hall of the is a boys' hostel for the students of St Anthony College , an educational institution of the Catholic Church, belonging to and managed by Salesians of the Don Bosco Educational Society which is registered under the Societies Regulation Act of 1860 (No SR/SDB-117/73 of 1973 and No SR/SAC-227/91 of 1991). Though primarily meant for Catholic students, it is open to all students irrespective of religion or community.
The St Anthony College maintains a well-stocked, Computerized Library with over 40,000 volumes. Spacious reading rooms with over 60 journals and 12 newspapers are provided at the library complex. The reference section is open during the college hours. The library also provides Internet facility to the staff and students of the College, making assignment-based teaching an enjoyable activity. The Library has books under the following section heads: Arts and Literature, Biology, Botany and Zoology, Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Technology, Computer Science and Information Technology, Commerce, Economics and Marketing, Environment and Ecology, Geology and Pisciculture, History, Political Science, Management and Entrepreneurship, Mass Communication, Journalism, Film Production and Advertising, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Statistics, Sections on vernaculars as Khasi, Garro, Assamese, Bengali, Hindi etc. Student Development Services department is an innovative project embarked upon by St Anthony College in answer to an acutely felt need of the student community of the college in particular and of the students of the North-Eastern region in general. It aims to provide: Student Guidance Services, and counseling in specific problem areas of alcoholism, drug abuse and AIDS.
Student Guidance Services provides personal is also provided by the St Anthony College with the aim of educational and vocational guidance to students for their overall balanced development. Students in this era need something supplementary to good teaching. They need proper guidance personal, educational and vocational to help them have a clear vision of their mission in life and to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and training to realize that mission. The students of North-East India lack the facilities needed to develop their full potential. There is an urgent need to provide them with the necessary guidance to enable them to exploit their energy and resources to achieve all that is within their reach. Guidance and counseling refer to the professional help offered by qualified personnel to a student or a group of students to help them to take decisions by themselves on matters affecting their future life.
The Educational guidance department of St Anthony College provides guidance and information to enable students to make choices about the subjects/courses of study suitable to their aptitudes and interests. Students with special educational problems, such as poor learning habits, underachievement, lack of concentration, etc., will be encouraged to make use of the counseling services. The guidance offered by the St Anthony College in this area is aimed at giving students a clear idea about the different careers/vocations, the nature of jobs, opportunities available, and the requirements for these jobs; and to help them to make a realistic assessment of themselves and their suitability for the career/profession of their own choice.
This aims to help individual students to understand themselves better, to understand the process of development so as to make themselves better adjusted persons in life.
St Anthony College has set up a Computer based language lab for the use of the students. The newly furnished lab has 36 systems along with an instructor’s terminal. In keeping with the demand for efficiency and fluency in communicative English, the college runs a Career Oriented Courses in Communicative English approved by UGC and other short term courses in Spoken English. Every student of such course is trained in grammar, diction and pronunciation using the computer terminals.
The St Anthony College has a well-furnished Canteen within the campus. The canteen is the most preferred place for every Anthonian and much time is spent around here. In addition to satisfying one’s hunger and thirst, lot of serious discussion on topics of current interest happen here. Many are found here revising their interpersonal and communicative skills over a cup of tea. The Canteen offers delicious delicacies of different types to the taste of all.
