Manipal commenced its offering in Management Science in 1999, when it launched the Manipal Institute of Management - MIM. However, it isn’t just the programme alone that makes Manipal Institute of Management - MIMdifferent from the others. All the sports activities at Manipal Institute of Management - MIMare conducted under the supervision of the University Sports Council headed by the Pro Chancellor as the Chairperson and Vice Chancellor as the Vice Chairperson of the council. The Deputy Registrar is the Secretary and the Registrar, Director, Student Affairs, Director, General Services, Director Finance, Director, Projects and all the Heads of constituent institutes and Directors of Physical Education are the members of this council. In addition to this, there are staff sports advisors in each college, who are also part of this council. Every year, one of the Directors of Physical Education will be elected as Chief Sports Coordinator who will oversee the University sports activities under the guidance of the Secretary, Sports Council.
The Interact is a four-storey building with 16 classrooms and is used by the students of KMC, KMCIC, MMMC, MCOAHS and MCOPS and others for their lectures. Each classroom can accommodate over a hundred students. The seating arrangement is such that the students get an unhindered view of the faculty and teaching aids from all sides. All halls have public address system as well. Similarly, on the Manipal Institute of Management - MIM campus there are 16 halls with all the facilities same as the Interact. Four of these halls can accommodate 120 students and the rest 90. Manipal Institute of Management - MIM will soon get an additional 65 classrooms with all these facilities when the new block comes up. Almost 30 lecture halls will be air-conditioned in the first phase and the remaining will be air-conditioned in the second.
Manipal University has a separate hostel section under the management of Hostel Management Committee. This committee is headed by its Chairperson. The Chief Warden, MU, Manipal Campus who is the secretary of the Committee administers the day to day aspects of the hostel management at Manipal. All the hostels of the University are divided into three campuses. The hostels of medical, dental and para medical colleges at Manipal are grouped under Chief Warden, MU, Manipal Campus; the hostels of engineering, management and other colleges located at Manipal Institute of Technology complex are grouped under Chief Warden, Manipal Institute of Management - MIM Campus; and the hostels at Mangalore Campus are grouped under Chief Warden, Mangalore Campus. Each hostel has a Warden from the teaching faculty of the colleges who is responsible for the discipline, maintenance of building, allotment of rooms etc. The hostel staff consists of caretakers/ block supervisors, other attendants and maintenance staff. The Manipal Servicecorp Facility Management Pvt. Ltd. (MSFM) looks after the maintenance of the buildings and other facilities in the hostels. Manipal Institute of Management - MIM has messes located at different areas of the Campus combined and also separately for boys and girls. Student can choose to be a member of any of these messes. Membership in any one of these messes is compulsory for students staying in Manipal Institute of Management - MIM campus and Mangalore campus.. This is not applicable for health sciences campus. However, all first year students of Health Sciences Campus are required to dine in one of the messes located in the campus: i.e. either Food Court Mess or RKHS Mess. This is due to Health/safety concerns and Security reasons.
