Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi was inaugurated on May 25, 1963. The College became a legal independent institution governed by a Council, and started offering engineering and commerce courses at diploma level in response to popular industrial demand. To reflect its expanded role and focus on technical education, the Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi changed its name to Ngee Ann Technical College. English replaced Chinese as the College’s sole medium of instruction. In April, the College welcomed its first batch of non-Chinese students. Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi reflect its expanded role in providing quality higher education, the college’s name was changed to Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Courses were also revised to promote practical and hands-on training. The Centre for Professional Development (then called Continuing Education Centre) was set up to provide a platform for postgraduates and working professionals to further their education and upgrade their skills. Located at the Teochew Building on Tank Road, Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi offered four-year degree courses in three main areas: language, commerce and technology. An extensive study on Ngee Ann’s future culminated in the passage of the Ngee Ann College Act that year.

The late president Mr. Ong Teng Cheong planted a Tembusu tree to mark the occasion, and a staff party was held on May 25. In August, the Polytechnic launched The Ngee Ann Story, a commemorative book. Celebrations culminated in the planting of a time capsule by Dr Tay Eng Soon, to be unearthed in 2013. Ngee Ann launched NPNet, a $9-million campus-wide computer network, making it the first local polytechnic to have such a network. NP's Human Resource department initiated the International Fellowship and Visiting Lecturer Scheme, a move which has since attracted lecturers from UK, US, Australia, Japan, New South Wales, China and India.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi mass communication students launched Tribune (the campus newspaper), and Radio Heatwave (the campus radio station). Ngee Ann became the first polytechnic to offer a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Ngee Ann’s Alpha Centre won the Excellence for Singapore Award for its contributions to Singapore ’s automation and robotics culture, and for distinguishing itself as a leader in mobile robotics in the international arena. It was the first polytechnic to receive such an award.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi was conferred the Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence. The Polytechnic became ISO 9001:2000 certified. From helping Singapore to achieve its industrialisation goals, the Polytechnic has evolved to helping Singapore in the new millennium’s Knowledge-based Economy. The Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi Learning Module (NLM) was introduced in FY2001/2002, to provide students with a broad-based and interdisciplinary education, and equip them for life-long employability in the New Economy. The then Innohub [now called office for Innovation and Enterprise (IE)]was formed to offer industry partners consultancy services; proffer research and development (R&D) experience, and showcase the Polytechnic’s technological expertise. In July 2002, Innohub launched the EnterpriZe! Scheme to help enterprising students bring their products and business ideas to market. Three diploma courses were launched this year, namely Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Diploma in Business Information Technology and Diploma in Engineering Informatics.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi celebrated its 40th Anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, it held its 40-year anniversary dinner at the new Convention Centre with then Education Minister RADM Teo Chee Hean as the guest-of-honour. A new phase of the Ngee Ann Learning model was unveiled to further ignite the spirit of innovation and campus on campus.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with G&W (Holdings) Ltd to set up Singapore ’s first overseas polytechnic education centre in Shengyang , China . The Diploma in Aerospace Technology and Diploma in Facilities Management for Business were introduced this year. Ngee Ann brought their celebration of youth and talent into the heart of Orchard Road for the first time. X!capade saw performances from both students and alumni including Jean Danker, Derrick Hoh and Daphne Khoo. Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi also launched two new diplomas to bring the number of diploma courses on offer to 34. The new diploma courses are the Diploma in Pharmacy and the Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi is spread over 35.4 hectares of suburban land at the fringe of the upmarket Bukit Timah residential district. The campus is well served by public buses from around the island. With its convenient location, transportation is a breeze. One can also reach the campus by taking the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train to Clementi or Dover MRT stations and then using connecting bus services (52, 61, 74, 75, 151, 154, 184) to arrive at the Polytechnic. Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi also provides free shuttle bus services every morning from Clementi, Hougang, Woodlands and Tampines interchanges during term time. The Library plays an integral role in polytechnic life, supporting all academic needs while catering to interdisciplinary studies, personal development, social, and recreational needs. To encourage lifelong learning, the library offers periodicals, audio-visual materials, computer software and electronic resources.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi latest and coolest on-campus student lounge makes it even more enticing for students to now stick around after class. Students can also have a little fun with the good range of board games or watch some news or sports on the LCD TV screen. Completed in 2006, the Green Mall boasts features such as al fresco dining area, a performance area and lots of greenery. With its tropical feel, this is a favourite location for students looking for a serene place to study.
To promote a healthy and active lifestyle, Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi offers staff and students an array of sporting amenities – including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, training pool, gymnasiums, tennis courts, badminton courts, squash courts, and complete stadium facilities. A football field and the NP Adventure Park can also be found at its staff quarters on Kismis Avenue. Visitors stepping into Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi will be welcomed by a wide expanse of land area dedicated towards sports excellence. The Student Plaza boasts a multi-purpose sports court complete with shower facilities. There is also a convenience store located at the Student Plaza where students can buy a drink after their work-out.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi Caterpillar's Cove Childcare Centre provides childcare services to kids from 18 months to 6 years of age. While the Centre opens to the public, enrolment priority is given to Polytechnic staff. Located at Block 51, Makan Place is the largest air-con food haven among all the polytechnics in Singapore. With 20 food stalls and an alfresco dining area spread over 2,600 square metres, the trendy food court offers a delicious variety of nibbles and bites ranging from Japanese, Indonesian and Taiwanese cuisines to fast-food options such as Subway, Hungry Jack's and Waffletown.
Students of Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi can also choose among three other canteens offering food at reasonable prices. With an excellent variety of meals ranging from western, local to even Japanese fare, food is never a problem on campus. Located at the heart of the Ngee Ann campus, the Convention Centre houses some of the most modern facilities. It contains a two-tiered auditorium which has a seating capacity of 1,800. It is an ideal choice for seminars, exhibitions, talks, cultural events, workshops and conferences.
At Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi there are also four lecture theatres and even a special exhibition area to showcase Ngee Ann’s proud history and heritage. The Teaching Hub is part of the 'green lung’ of the campus, creating a conducive studying environment on campus. Students can choose to relax by the eco-pond to watch the fishes as well as the sunset.
The lush greenery of Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Clementi offers students with scenic places where they can hang out.
