Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar was established on / in 03.08.1973. The College was established in 1974 with just 8 rooms. Now it has administrative block, 60 classrooms, 15 laboratories, P.G. Block, I.T. Block and Commerce & Science Block, underground parking, playground, gymnasium, common room and medical room. Besides, there are 2 bookshops, 2 Cafeterias and a reading hall. It does not have its own hostel. Shortly the
Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar plans to start construction of hostel. Its total area is 6.4 acres after the inclusion 5 acres land the College has procured.
The College meets the need for augmenting the infrastructure through funds generated by self-financing courses and donations by philanthropists and donors. The management of the College also provides adequate funds. The annual maintenance is done with the active participation of the teaching and non-teaching staff. The College has employed a carpenter, an electrician, gardeners, safai karamcharis, security staff and peons for proper up-keep of the campus. The Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar has constituted various committees namely; gardening committee, canteen committee, bus service committee, general cleanliness committee, maintenance committee for labs., notice board and campus beautification committee, and College dispensary & maintenance of common room committee. A convener heads each committee. Annual stock checking is conducted at departmental level.
The Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar ensures optimum utilization of infrastructure facilities by conducting short term courses during summer break, coaching classes for home science and cosmetology, personality development programmes and holding evening classes of NTT. Various departments share audio-visual devices. The College also offers infrastructural help for holding competitive examinations by banks and railway. The College also allows external agencies to use its facilities such as Hero Mind Mine for running courses in communication skills and personality development programmes, and NGOs/Institutes involved in social work organize programmes in the College. The College campus is kept pollution free and beautiful with the help of Gardening, Cleanliness and Campus Beautification Committees. Gardening Committee looks after the plantation. Cleanliness committee ensures general cleanliness such as sweeping, neatness of room and laboratory etc.
Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar Students also participate in campus beautification activity. With the help of advisory committee the College manages the library affairs. The library has 32,401 books and subscribes to 10 journals, 80 magazines and 20 newspapers. It also provides Book Bank facility to the needy and deserving students. The College is in the process of computerization of library. The library has the facility of reprography, computers, Internet and audio-visual cassettes. It also proposes to install networking and Teleconferencing on EDUSAT. The working days of the library are 271 per annum. It works from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.
The Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar department of Computer Science has a separate Computer Centre with 5 computer systems. It works from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The main objective of this Computer Centre is to increase computer literacy among the students. The Computer Department of the College has a computer laboratory with 68 computers including a central server and other peripherals like printers, scanners, etc. The Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar has a laboratory attendant and a laboratory instructor for the maintenance of computers in the computer science department. The College provides health and medical services through qualified doctor who is available on call.
Department of Physical Education manages Physical Education Centre with the facility of gym, medical room and health club. The College has playgrounds for the games of basketball, kho-kho, ball badminton, and volleyball, indoor games (judo, yoga and chess). The students are given incentives for taking part in sports activities. Main benefits/incentives are free-ships to outstanding sports persons, scholarships and prizes, refreshment, sports kit, etc. During last year 8 students participated at state-3, regional-4 and national-1 level competitions. The College doesn't have its workshop/Centre for instrumentation. It is worth mentioning here that during the period of about three decades the Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women – PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar has been able to gain social recognition as an institution of academic excellence and to create a very good image of its own in the eyes of people in the community who prefer to send their wards and relatives to this institution only. The College is continuing to pursue the path of progress incessantly. College offers Bachelors, Master and Post Graduate courses leading to different streams.
