From designing advertisements to placing those in suitable media; from building brands to crisis management; from public relations to event management – students individually and in teams learn the nuances of corporate communication.Film is a fascinating world of audio-visual narrative, fantasy and reality, art and technology. The film studies stream attempts to make students understand the nitty-gritty of film-making, its theoretical premises and its connection with society at large. The Honorable Director of Mr. Kamath is a award-winning journalist with decades of experience in print and broadcast media. An experiment of Prasar Bharathi, is an initiative started and run by students of
Manipal Institute of Communication to explore and learn all aspects of true journalism and reporting. It is the only news reporting website to start from the place. Started in September 2007, TMJ currently generates more than 1.5Lakh hits per month and above 1000 story views per day. Unpaid and true news is a rare in media but the reporters and the core of this site make sure they do not fall in that trap. Manipal Institute of Communication believes in preparing students for immediate placements in the industry.
A Placement Cell of
Manipal Institute of Communication comprising of all faculty members and student representatives facilitates the process of placement for students in the final semesters of MS Communication, BAJC and PGDCC. The Placement Cell is headed by a faculty coordinator who forms sub-committees for different Specializations like print media, broadcast media and communication management. The President of the Students Council along with one placement representative from each Specialization area of MS Communication final year, two from MS I year, one from PGDCC and one each from BAJC final and second year form the student body of the placement cell. The placement cell apart from facilitating placements takes care of internships for students of MIC. The placement process begins in September with the compilation of profiles of students and the preparation and printing of the placement brochure. Students, along with faculty members visit industries from October to December and distribute placement brochures in print and electronic forms and invite them to visit the campus for pre-placement presentations. Companies start visiting the campus for pre-placement discussion from December to the end of January.
Manipal Institute of Communication has international exchange programmes for students and faculty. The institute encourages students both undergraduate and graduate to study one semester in universities outside India. Students for these exchange programmes are selected by a committee of faculty members that judges them based on their academic credentials, performance in co-curricular activities, adaptability to different cultures and other parameters. Many of our students have been on these exchange programmes to Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Bremen, Germany and University of Queensland, Australia with scholarships.
